New Music from "Across the Universe"
Tuesday. 9.25.07 7:11 pm

This is “Hey Jude”. Written by The Beatles and sung by Joe Anderson.

The song is from the movie “Across the Universe” which Jenn and I saw yesterday. It was pretty good. Not great. Certainly not as good as Moulin Rouge. The music was of course awesome. Re-recordings of Beatles songs by some great singers. The actors all did their own singing.

But the story needed serious work. If they’d left it a love story with some 60's themes it would’ve been fine, but there were a lot of unnecessary scenes that were clearly written just so they could have a musical number. Similarly, the characters were clearly named just so certain Beatles songs could be sung about them. So there wasn’t really a good balance between the music and the story. But it was still a good movie, if only for the music.

The acting was great though. Even Bono was in it for one scene and... shockingly enough he was a great actor.

In any case, I would recommend it, but see a matinee.

Ehh... I don't like this version as much as the original.
